DOMAIN NAMES

All too often, unscrupulous individuals buy, use and sell domain names related to your business name, trademark and/or website address in an effort to illicitly profit from your marketing efforts.

These individuals, often referred to as cyber-squatters, purchase domain names similar to yours with an intent to profit from internet traffic redirected from your website to websites offering competing products.

When you become aware of the problem, these individuals then (conveniently) offer to sell you the rights to their domain name for an outrageous amount of money.

If you have a domain name dispute, give us a call.  A well-crafted cease and desist letter can resolve many of these issues.

If that is not successful, ICANN’s Uniform Dispute Resolution Procedures may be utilized to transfer the disputed domain name to your control.  Litigation against the cyber-squatter may also be an option under the Anti-Cybersquatting Consumer Protection Act (ACPA).
